Kirk
There is a twofold purpose to TDSoS. One, which is obvious if you've read some of the other works on this site, is to go a little further into the horror of life in Sunnydale. The other is a little more undefined; to look into the inner turmoil of the characters, to explore those shades of grey that we all have in us... and to leave, perhaps, with no answers, but more questions. This is that type of story.
It is senior year, before graduation. The two slayers, enemies by circumstance, if not necessarily by choice, meet on the sidewalk. Their chance encounter leads to, of all things, conversation.
The characterization in this vignette is supurb. Inspired by a scene from the movie "Heat", Kirk has taken the daunting task of writing from two very different points of view, and succeeds marvelously. Faith reads like Faith. Buffy is Buffy. Kirk is nowhere to be seen. This is a beautifully introspective story which left me wondering - how does one person truly touch another? How do we help each other, and is it really our place?
