Annie Sewell-Jennings
I've been reading Annie's work since she first started posting to the X-Files archives. Her writing is simply gorgeous, with great attention to characterization and detail. She is one of the few Mulder/Scully 'shipper writers that I enjoy, and that's saying a lot, since I'm an avid noromo. (For those of you who don't follow XFness, a noromo is someone who adamantly does NOT want the two lead characters together in a romantic sense.) I was surprised to find that she wrote Buffyfic as well, and jumped right in to read. Frankly, however, I was expecting Buffy/Angel lovey-dovey mush. Boy was I surprised.
"Stealing all the Stars" is a shocking, glorious "what if" story. Buffy is a souless vampire, a riveting combination of sex, cruelty, and a passionate relationship with her consort. Annie takes everything that defines Buffy as a Slayer and twists it, turning her into a monster who is perhaps more terrifying than Angelus at his worst. She draws you in from the very first sentence, showing a nightmarish version of what could be.
Her greatest skill is atmosphere. She has the ability to describe the physical scene without losing the mood of the piece. I cannot recommend her enough.
Annie now has a website for her Buffyfic - The Buffy Fanfiction of Annie Sewell-Jennings. If you'd like to check out her other work, go to Broken Barriers. I highly recommend "Skin" - an alternate universe XF story set in Charleston, SC. Which just happens to be my hometown, and let me tell you, she describes it perfectly.
